AWARD-WINNING LYRICA BAROQUE PROGRAM INCLUDES
BACH, HANDEL, VINCI AND OTHER MASTER WORKS
Lafayette, LA - Lyrica Baroque, a unique collective of artists who perform as a special kind of chamber ensemble, will step on stage at 7:30 p.m. on September 26 in the historic Auditorium at Lafayette Middle. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, Lafayette Middle School is located at 1301 W University Ave., at the intersection of W. University and Versailles. The performance is offered by UpStage.
Established in 2009, Lyrica Baroque is a two-time winner of Best Chamber Music Performance in Gambit Magazine’s Tribute to the Classical Arts. The highly creative and artistically excellent group performed in August as part of the celebrated Chautauqua Festival in New York.
Performing September 26 will be Jaren Atherholt, oboe; Gaabrielle Fischler, violin; Benjamin Atherholt, bassoon; Robert Holm, piano and Sasha Massey, soprano. The program includes solos, trios and works for the full ensemble. The program will include Handel’s four-movement Trio Sonata No. 3 and Let the Bright Seraphim; In mezzo all'onde irate by L. Vinci and other pieces .
By blending the most compelling aspects of chamber music and opera, Lyrica Baroque represents a new expression of classical music, one that appeals to chamber music lovers, opera lovers, and symphony lovers alike. Whether playing baroque, classical or their own arrangements, Lyrica Baroque combines the soaring beauty of operatic singing with the exquisite sounds of woodwinds, strings and piano. The result is an intimate, vocally-inspired evening that infuses the repertoire with great variety and drama. Their unmatched versatility, coupled with truly stellar performances offers a new and exciting experience in classical music.
“We are looking forward to the performance by this fantastic ensemble that will take place in one of Lafayette’s most important hidden venues,” says Jacqueline Lyle, UpStage’s creative director. “The Auditorium at Lafayette Middle is a comfortable, centrally-located venue that is perfect for chamber music. We can’t wait for this live, public performance in this special place.”
Because the ensemble collaborates for performances as a changing collective, Lafayette-based soprano Sasha Massey—who attended Lafayette Middle School--will sing on the current Lyrica Baroque tour.
“It will be exciting for me to sing in the Auditorium at Lafayette Middle,” says Massey. “That is where I received some of my earliest musical training from Lerone Rubin, who inspired me to pursue my career.” In addition to her other professional engagements, Massey is the cantor at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
